🌍

Cosmogony & Origin

theistic creation

Olodumare (Supreme Creator) is the source of all existence and ase (life force). Creation was delegated to the Orishas: Obatala molded humans from clay, Oduduwa created dry land from primordial waters using a snail shell, a hen, and a palm nut. Ile-Ife is the sacred city of origin.

Values & Ethics

relational reciprocity

Odu Ifa corpus (256 chapters of divination poetry). Iwa Pele is the supreme ethical value. Babalawo priests as custodians of wisdom.

Purpose & Salvation

custodian of balance

To fulfill one's Ori (personal destiny chosen before birth), develop Iwa Pele (good character), and ultimately achieve union with Olodumare. Each person chooses their destiny in heaven before birth.

Suffering & Happiness

Suffering may result from: failure to fulfill one's Ori (destiny), actions of Ajogun (negative cosmic forces), neglect of Orisha veneration, or disrupted ancestral relationships. Olodumare is transcendent and does not directly cause suffering. Ifa divination reveals the source and remedy.

Eschatology

ancestral continuation

No apocalyptic end times. Death is a transition to Orun (invisible realm), from which one may be reincarnated within family lineage. 'Heaven is home, earth is the marketplace.' Ancestors continue to influence the living.
